Lydia is a five-month-old baby girl growing up in Tanzania. She is the youngest in a family of three children.
Lydia was born with bilateral clubfoot, which is a birth defect that occurs when the feet are twisted out of shape. After her diagnosis, her parents were not able to afford the entirety of Lydia’s treatment. They were then directed to come to our medical partner’s care center. If Lydia does not receive treatment, she will experience pain and have difficulty walking. Consequently, she may not be able to attend school, which could then impact her ability to work when she grows up.
Lydia is currently scheduled to undergo surgery to correct the positioning of her feet on May 16. Her family has been able to pay for $45 of the cost of the procedure. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting an additional $890 to cover the remaining expenses.
Lydia’s parents are hopeful that their daughter will make a full recovery and go on to live a normal life. Her father says, “When she gets treated, I would love to see Lydia attend school and become an accountant.”
