Tway is a 20-year-old man who lives with his cousin, his cousin’s wife, and two nephews, in a village in Tak Province, Thailand. Since his parents passed away, Tway has lived with various relatives in Burma and Thailand. His cousin’s family grows paddy and vegetables for their consumption, while his nephews go to school. Tway helps his cousin with farming. In his spare time, Tway likes to hunt birds and go fishing. He hopes to find work so that he won’t have to rely on his relatives to support him.
In March 2024, Tway underwent a series of operations to repair anorectal malformations. As part of the treatment, he also had a colostomy, in which the end of the colon is brought through an opening in the abdominal wall. This was a temporary measure used to bypass bowel malformations. Tway’s colostomy requires reversal, to restore bowel function and to prevent future complications.
Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to cover the cost of a reverse colostomy for Tway. The surgery is scheduled to take place on June 13th at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital. After surgery, doctors expect Tway to live more comfortably and confidently.
Tway said: “I am waiting to receive this surgery for my last treatment, and after this surgery, then I will become like a normal person and will be very happy.”
