Meet Samantha 6-year-old cheerful girl from Kenya. Two years ago, Samantha started experiencing difficulty swallowing and would complain of a sore throat. She was put on drugs at a local hospital to no fruition. A friend referred her aunt to our facility.
Samantha was diagnosed with symptomatic adenotonsillar and surgery recommended. When treated, she will be able to breathe with ease and reduce the pain on the throat.
Samantha lives with her aunt as her family is not able to support her education. Her parents are peasants, with her father a bus driver while the mother is a housewife. Samantha is the firstborn child and has one sibling. The family is not able to raise the funds needed for her surgery.

Samantha underwent a tonsillectomy.
Samantha was admitted and had a successful surgery with an uneventful recovery. She is doing well and was discharged from hospital in December. During her stay in the hospital, Samantha was also diagnosed with Fibrous dysplasia of the right skull bones. She will need to undergo another surgery (resection of the bony tumor) sometime this year.
Samantha’s aunt shared, “I am so grateful for Watsi and the SAFE program and I can’t say enough about how much I appreciate everyone for ensuring Samantha’s surgery was successful. We received the best care while in the hospital.”
