Raiyat is a one-year-old girl from the Manyara Region in northern mainland, Tanzania. She is the youngest of nine children and lives with both of her parents. They rely on farming and selling their crops to support the family. Raiyat was born with clubfoot on both sides, making it difficult for her to wear normal shoes, stand steadily, and walk comfortably. Her parents were unsure where to seek help until they met a former patient who had successfully received treatment at Kafika House. Encouraged by this experience, they brought Raiyat there for care. Raiyat’s treatment will follow the Ponseti method, beginning with a series of gentle manipulations and plaster casts to gradually correct the position of her feet. This will be followed by a tenotomy procedure and the use of a Foot Abduction Brace (FAB), which she will wear until the age of five to prevent relapse.
Surgeons will begin clubfoot treatment on July 2nd. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $341 to fund Raiyat’s clubfoot repair. After treatment, Raiyat has an excellent chance of walking confidently and enjoying a healthy, active childhood.
Raiya’s parents said, “We, as parents, really want to see the very first steps Raiyat takes and with this treatment she will be able to do that.”
