This is Sok La, a 31-year-old woman from Cambodia who was diagnosed with chronic otitis media, or inflammation of the middle ear. “I’m very worried about her since she has had this discharge for so long, and I hope that she can get the operation she needs,” says her husband.
“Sok La has two sons. When she isn’t farming, she goes to the market to sell her crops,” describes Children’s Surgical Centre, our medical partner. According to them, she has been dealing with her condition for the past seven years, with hearing loss in her left ear. Unfortunately, the ear infections and discharge associated with her condition have also left her with frequent headaches and pain.
For only $810, we can fund Sok La’s mastoidectomy, which is the procedure performed to remove cells in the spaces of the skull behind the ear. If left untreated, she will have to continue to live her life in discomfort and may even experience hearing loss in her other ear. Let’s help her out!
