Alex is a 25-year-old man who lives with his wife and four-month-old daughter in Kenya. Due to a lack of funds for school, Alex dropped out, and now works farming Miraa - a local herb - to earn money for his family. Alex and his family live on land that belonged to his father, although he said that his relatives have been trying to take it away from him.
Recently, Alex was assaulted by his uncles when he tried to prevent them from forcefully picking Miraa on his land. He sustained injuries to his right hand and left leg during the attack. He was taken to a local hospital, where X-rays were taken, and a cast was applied to his leg. He was then referred to the regional hospital, but he lacked money for transportation. A kind neighbor offered to help him, paying about $10 for a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon. Alex was diagnosed with an isolated radius shaft fracture.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Alex receive treatment. On April 8th, surgeons at our medical partner’s care center, Maua Methodist Hospital, will perform a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) to prevent further complications that would prevent the fracture from healing properly. Now, Alex needs help to fund this $1,079 procedure.
Alex says: “Please help me to undergo the surgery. I’m looking forward to going back to my day-to-day activities and feed my young family”.
