Meet Joseph, a 50-year-old father of three from Kenya. Joseph has developed cataracts in both eyes over the last several years. He is completely blind in his right eye, and can only perceive light and motion in his left eye. He cannot move around by himself, and relies on his sister to guide him throughout the day.
Joseph’s wife is physically disabled, and she too needs support to go about her daily routine. Their children go to school, and a local hospital supports them by paying for tuition and food.
Joseph used to be a casual laborer, and worked on farms and construction sites as needed. He cannot work now due to his loss of eyesight, and cannot afford the $230 needed for a cataract surgery.
“I cannot begin to explain the relevance of your help to me and my home,” Joseph shares. “I am very happy that I will be able to see again and work and support my family again.”
A successful operation will allow Joseph to see again, and hopefully regain a sense of normalcy.
