Yohana is a five-year-old girl from Ethiopia. She is in kindergarten and is an active member of her household, supported by her mother and her father, an electrician and electronics maintenance staff member. Having dealt with chronic tonsillitis since she was a toddler, Yohana has spent over half of her life navigating the difficult challenges of this condition. For three years now, Yohana has been experiencing snoring, fevers, and a painful throat. These recurring infections, filled with frequent fevers and intense pain, have often pulled her away from her first years of school. They have also disrupted the energetic play she should be enjoying with her brother. Our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital, is requesting $700 to fund a tonsillectomy for Yohana, which is scheduled to take place on April 25th. Surgeons will remove her tonsils, hopefully relieving Yohana of her symptoms and helping her live more comfortably. Yohana's parents shared, "We hope the surgery will allow her to grow up to be active and energetic."

Vorn is a 13-year-old Grade 7 student from Cambodia. He is the youngest of five siblings and lives with his parents in Kampot Province. His parents are rice farmers, while his older sister works as a teacher, his older brother works in a garment factory, and his other siblings are in high school. He enjoys studying English and playing football with his friends in the village. His favorite meal is lemongrass sour soup with eggs. For the past six years, Vorn has been experiencing difficulty swallowing, a tight sensation in his throat, recurrent sore throats, and difficulty breathing. He also snores at night. His ongoing throat problems make swallowing and breathing uncomfortable and can disturb his sleep because of nighttime snoring. These symptoms affect his comfort and make it harder for him to feel well during his daily activities and at school. Vorn was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $345 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Vorn, which is scheduled to take place on September 10th. Surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Vorn of his symptoms and helping him live much more comfortably. Vorn's parents said, “We hope the surgery will help our son breathe and swallow more comfortably and sleep better at night. We are excited to see him feel healthier and enjoy his daily activities with fewer throat problems.”

By is a 67-year-old woman from Cambodia. She works as a laborer, planting vegetables and crops in Kandal Province. She is married and has one son, one daughter, and two grandchildren. She lives with her husband, who also works planting vegetables, and her son. In her free time, she enjoys listening to monks’ prayers and the news on her phone. About one month ago, she developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own. When By learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On September 2nd, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $263 procedure. By shared, "I hope that after cataract surgery, my eye pain will stop and my vision will improve so that I can return to work and feel happy and independent again."
