Victor is a 37-year-old husband and father of three young children. He earns a living through casual farm work, mainly ploughing other people’s fields, while his wife cares for their home and children.
Victor’s sight and his ability to provide are closely connected. His work requires him to see well enough to move around fields and handle farm tasks, but poor vision has reduced how much casual work he can manage. As his ability to work has fallen, so has the little income available for food and other basic needs. He recalls days when there was nothing to eat and the family went to bed hungry. The combination of worsening sight and hunger has made it even harder for him to keep providing.
In 2025, about four months after being diagnosed with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, Victor developed cataracts in both eyes and his vision progressively worsened. His right eye was eventually operated on through a free surgical camp. He now has a cataract in his left eye, causing cloudy vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and worries about falling when he walks, so he is unable to go places on his own.
When Victor learned about our medical partner, he traveled from the interior of Bungoma by motorcycle, seeking treatment. On September 3rd, doctors will perform an incision and intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, Victor needs help to fund this $244 procedure.
Victor says: “I truly appreciate the kindness and support I received for my first surgery. I now hope my other eye can also be treated so I can see better and work to provide for my family again.”
