Joseph is a four-year-old cheerful boy from Kenya. He loves playing football with his friends and participating in school music festivals. Despite the present discomfort due to a medical condition, Joseph remains playful and full of life. Joseph’s parents separated after financial hardship strained their relationship. He now lives with his grandmother, who has lovingly taken responsibility for his care. Joseph’s grandmother is a small-scale farmer who grows maize, beans, and sweet potatoes. Her limited income barely covers the family’s basic needs. When he was about two years old, Joseph's grandmother noticed a swelling in his groin area. The family tried treating the condition through oral medication, but the swelling persisted. The swelling gets more pronounced when Joseph is playing or doing any physical activity, which causes him discomfort. Seeking proper assessment, Joseph's grandmother borrowed 300 Kenya Shillings (about $2.50) from a neighbor and brought him to our medical partner, IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital. Following a thorough medical review, Joseph was diagnosed with a hydrocele, a collection of fluid in the scrotal sac, which causes it to swell. He needs surgery to prevent his symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital, is helping Joseph receive treatment. On August 6th, he will undergo a herniotomy procedure to treat his condition, allowing him a healthier, pain-free life. Now, Joseph's family needs help to fund this $584 procedure. His grandmother says: "I thank the hospital and the donors for showing my grandson kindness. God bless you for supporting him. This is God's own doing, because there is no one else who would have helped us."

Sarah is a 39-year-old woman from Kenya. She and her husband do not have a reliable source of income, and depend on the little they can obtain from their family land. Her eldest child, now 20, has completed secondary school but remains at home, while her youngest is seven years old and in Grade 2. Sarah first noticed a swelling at the front of her neck in 2015. Over the years, it has grown and caused increasing pressure on her neck, making it difficult for her to breathe comfortably. She has sought medical attention but has been unable to access the lasting treatment she needs. Recently, Sarah traveled to IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital to seek treatment. She has been diagnosed with a goitre, which is an enlargement of the thyroid gland. Doctors have now recommended a thyroidectomy to treat her condition and relieve her symptoms. Alongside her health challenges, Sarah carries a heavy emotional burden at home. Her husband struggles with alcohol abuse and becomes emotionally abusive when intoxicated, often leaving her distressed and discouraged. Yet Sarah continues to hold her family together and care for her children as best she can. With five children to support, the cost of surgery is far beyond their reach. Our medical partner, IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital, is helping Sarah receive treatment. On August 6th, she will undergo surgery to help her breathe more easily, restore her physical comfort and give her the peace of mind she longs for. With renewed health, Sarah can continue caring for her children and face the future with greater strength and hope. Now, Sarah needs help to fund this $1,450 procedure. Metrine is a 40-year-old woman from Kenya. She lives with her husband, a farmer, and their two sons and two daughters. Her eldest child is in Form 3, while the youngest is in PP2. Each day, Metrine balances caring for her family with running her small business. Metrine's health challenges began in November 2009, when she developed hemorrhoid, a painful and sensitive condition, characterized by swollen and inflamed veins in the lower rectum. The condition has been causing her pain, irritation, swelling and bleeding, making sitting, walking and using the toilet uncomfortable. For Metrine, the condition affects her ability to work at her grocery stall, manage household duties and care for her children comfortably. She has sought treatment at different hospitals over the years, but the symptoms have continued. Metrine traveled to our medical partner, IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital, for review and treatment. Doctors have advised that she needs to undergo a haemorrhoidectomy to treat her condition. Although Metrine and her husband work hard, their modest income goes towards food, education and other daily needs. They cannot afford the surgery she now requires. Fortunately, our medical partner, IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital, is helping Metrine receive treatment. On August 6th, she will undergo surgery to treat her condition, enabling her to go back to work and better care for her family. Now, Metrine needs help to fund this $552 procedure. She says: "“This surgery will mean more to me than freedom from pain. It will help me work with ease, care for my children comfortably, and live without feeling limited by my condition. I hope to regain my health, confidence, and independence.”

David is a 61-year-old farmer from Bungoma County in Kenya. He is a hardworking husband and father who has remained committed to supporting his family despite his health condition. He values his independence, and takes pride in remaining productive and present for his family, that's why his condition has got him worried. David first noticed a swelling in his inguinal region, accompanied by discomfort, in 2024. Over time, the pain and heaviness have increasingly affected his movement, productivity, and comfort during everyday activities.The swelling gets more pronounced during physical activity, especially when he bends, lifts heavy objects, or works for long hours on the farm. David sought medical attention at various health facilities but the condition persisted. David traveled to our medical partner, IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital, and was assessed. He has been diagnosed with an inguinal hernia, a condition that occurs when abdominal tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the lower abdominal muscles, causing a bulge in the groin area. Doctors have recommended a hernia repair surgery to treat his condition and prevent further complications. Our medical partner, IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital, is requesting $696 to fund David's surgery, which is scheduled for Aug 6th. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live a healthier life. David says: “After surgery, I hope to regain my strength, improve my quality of life, and return to farming with greater comfort and confidence.”

Josephine is a three-year-old preschooler from Kenya. She is the second-born child in her family, whose parents work as casual laborers to sustain their family. When Josephine was six months old, a nurse at a child welfare clinic noticed a swelling in her umbilical area, and informed the family that Josephine had an umbilical hernia. The family later sought care at a nearby health facility, where surgery was recommended, but they could not afford the cost, so treatment was delayed. Hoping the swelling would recede on its own, they tried using traditional remedies, but the swelling continued to enlarge. Josephine's father shares that the condition has been causing his daughter much discomfort, frequent illness and repeated hospital visits. These episodes have also made her miss school, impacting her attendance and progress at an important stage of early learning and development. Recently, Josephine's father met a former Watsi beneficiary who advised the family to seek care at IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital. At the hospital, her diagnosis of umbilical hernia was confirmed, a condition in which abdominal tissue bulges in the belly button area, due to a weak spot in the abdominal wall. Josephine needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital, is requesting $696 to fund Josephine's surgery, which has been scheduled for August 14th. Treatment will relieve her discomfort, reduce interruptions from illness and help her return more consistently to play, learning and the everyday experiences of childhood. Now, Josephine's family needs help to fund this $696 procedure. Josephine's mother says: "I am hoping for healing for my daughter."

Dinah is a 72-year-old mother and farmer from Kenya, who has endured severe pain from osteoarthritis in her right hip for 15 years. Despite her age and worsening mobility, she remains the main provider for a household that depends heavily on her. She lives in a simple mud house without electricity and relies on lanterns for lighting. Her family collects water from a well about one kilometer from home. She has eight children, all of whom are currently unemployed, and she continues to carry much of the responsibility for supporting the household. Dinah could not afford definitive treatment, so she spent years trying local remedies in the hope of easing the pain. These only offered temporary relief and could not correct the damage in her hip. The pain has progressively worsened over the past 15 years. Walking, standing for long periods, and completing ordinary household tasks have become increasingly difficult. The 1KM journey to fetch water is now a painful undertaking, and the condition has also limited her ability to farm and provide for her family. No specific accident or injury was reported as the cause. Hip replacement surgery would give her the chance to relieve her of pain, help her regain greater independence so she can return to farming, and participate more fully in the daily life of her family. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital can help. On August 17th, Dinah will undergo a total hip replacement to relieve her pain, and allow her to regain function of her leg. Another organization is helping to support her treatment, but Dinah still needs to raise an additional $1,500 to fund the procedure. She says: "For 15 years, I have lived with this pain because I could not afford surgery. I only pray for the chance to walk without pain, return to my farm, and care for my family again.”

Moses is a seven-year-old boy from Kenya. His parents rely on casual work to support their family. From birth, Moses' life has demanded extraordinary strength. He was delivered by emergency Caesarean section after the umbilical cord was found around his neck. He did not cry immediately, needed resuscitation, and was admitted for newborn care and oxygen therapy. He also lives with cerebral palsy and autism, conditions that have shaped nearly every part of his childhood. His mother kept taking him for physiotherapy at the nearest available facility, even when progress was slow. As he grew, Moses was found to have cryptorchidism, a birth condition where a baby boy has an undescended testicle, meaning one or both testicles have not moved down into the scrotum before birth. Instead, the testicle stays inside the abdomen or the groin. Fortunately, our medical partner, IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital, can help. Moses will undergo surgery on August 20th. His family needs help raising $522 to fund his procedure and care. Moses's mother shared, "The day my son learned to walk, I called it a miracle. I pray this surgery will be another door opening for him. More than anything, I wish him to get to see a speech therapist and find a way of taking him back to school'.'

Selina is an 84-year-old mother of six. Her husband died over 40 years ago, and she has raised her children by herself since, even with financial challenges. To earn an income, Selina made traditional brew until 2023 when she could not continue due to her medical condition. About six years ago, Selina noticed that her vision was getting blurry, but she assumed it was part of growing old. Her vision continued to deteriorate until she could no longer do her daily chores. Today her vision is so poor that she walks with the support of a white cane. In 2023 she totally lost her eye sight in one eye. Selina has been diagnosed with a cataract, which is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, especially in bright sunlight, and she is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own. When Selina learned about our medical partner, IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital, she traveled for an hour seeking treatment. On July 9th, doctors will perform cataract surgery with an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. She needs help to fund this $244 procedure. Selina says, "I pray for the surgery to go well. I wish to get my sight again and resume my normal duties so I can relieve my daughter to take care of her own family."

Aiden is a three-year-old boy from Kenya. His mother was a student when she was pregnant with Aiden, so Aiden grew up in the care of his grandmother. Aiden was an energetic little boy who loved chasing bubbles, kicking a ball, and laughing with other children. However, his mother and grandmother both noticed a swelling in a sensitive area of his body. Over the past year, it has grown bigger and started to cause discomfort and pain. He now complains through tears after walking, running, jumping, or playing active games because the swelling feels heavy and uncomfortable. Instead of joining his friends, he often watches from a distance or quietly hides in lonely corners when asked to play. Aiden has a persistent hydrocele affecting the right side of his scrotum. The swelling has progressively increased in size and is associated with heaviness, discomfort during movement, and reduced participation in normal childhood activities. Left untreated, a communicating hydrocele may continue causing symptoms and can be associated with an underlying inguinal hernia. Doctors recommended a herniotomy, a safe and commonly performed paediatric operation that closes the abnormal opening responsible for the fluid collection. The procedure is expected to relieve his discomfort, resolve the swelling, prevent future complications, and allow him to return to normal growth, play, and social interaction. Our medical partner, IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital, is helping Aiden undergo surgery on July 8th. They need help raising $584 to fund his procedure and care. For Aiden, this operation is about much more than correcting a swelling. It is an opportunity to reclaim the simple joys of childhood—to run without pain, chase bubbles across the compound, kick a ball with friends, laugh without discomfort, and grow with the confidence every child deserves. Aiden's grandmother shared, "I am highly expectant that my grandchild will be healed after the surgery, and I cannot thank you enough."

Julius is a 78-year-old subsistence farmer whose wife died four years ago. He has 10 children, who are all married, and although they care deeply for him, they struggle to support him because most depend on irregular casual work. Julius is a proud grandfather to 26 grandchildren. He earns a living by cultivating a quarter-acre piece of rocky land on the remote slopes of Mt. Elgon. Despite his determination to work, his failing eyesight has taken away the independence that once allowed him to provide for himself. About three years ago, Julius developed cataracts on both eyes, which is characterized by the clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. Through a free eye surgical camp, he received surgery on his right eye whose vision was more impacted than the left. Recently, Julius learned about our medical partner, IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital, and came to seek treatment for his left eye. He has been scheduled for surgery on July 9th and is hopeful that after recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, Julius needs help to fund this $244 procedure. He says ,"I am seeking support to get this surgery so that my sight can be restore. I wish to recognize all my grandchildren clearly and resume my daily work as I used to. Depending on people for help even in the simplest tasks is a real burden.”

Margaret is a 76-year-old widowed mother of two, who has worked tirelessly to provide for her family since her husband's death 13 years ago. Through growing bananas, maize, and beans and keeping poultry, she earned enough to support her children's education. Her daughter was enrolled in a Food and Beverage course, while her son began studying Mechanical Engineering, giving the family hope for a brighter future. Everything changed last year when Margaret's vision began to fail. Unable to continue farming, she lost her family's main source of income. With no money for school fees, both children were forced to defer their studies. Her son now works as a herds boy to help the family survive, while her daughter, who recently gave birth, remains at home caring for her one-month-old baby. Despite her own visual impairment, Margaret is forced by the situation to support both her daughter and new born grandchild. Margaret started having blurred vision in 2023 and she was given eye drops that didn't help. She was later referred to our medical partner's care center, IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital, by a friend who had her surgery there. She traveled two hours to get to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with cataract in her left eye. The condition causes her to be increasingly sensitive to bright sunlight, and her vision appears cloudy, as though she were looking through a foggy window. Reading, sorting farm produce, and carrying out household chores became challenging, and she often struggled to judge distances or walk confidently on uneven paths. Over time, her vision worsened to the point that she could no longer farm as she sometimes picked weeds thinking they were crops. She at one time even fell and broke her leg. Margaret's cataract surgery has been scheduled for July 9th. During the procedure, doctors will perform an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, Margaret needs help to fund this $244 procedure. She says, "I am overwhelmed with joy for the opportunity to receive this treatment. I never knew that a well wisher who would listen to me as a widow. I am forever grateful. God bless you."

David is a 32-year-old young man from Kenya. As the fourth born child in a family of seven children, life has not always been easy. David has however remained hardworking and determined. He has one 12-year-old daughter who is being raised by her grandmother, following David and his wife's separation. To earn a living, David takes on casual jobs at construction sites. In his free time, he is an active participant in sports, and has been on volleyball and athletics tournaments in the recent years. David had gone out to buy vegetables one evening when he was attacked by robbers. In the assault, he sustained severe injuries and lost consciousness. Good Samaritans rushed him to the nearest health facility, where he was stabilized before being urgently referred to IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital, for specialized care. Investigations revealed a complex fracture of his left upper arm. Doctors attempted a closed reduction but due to the nature of the fracture, they have now recommended an Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) procedure as the definitive treatment to restore function and prevent long-term disability. Unfortunately, David cannot afford the cost of surgery. As a casual laborer, the injury left him unable to work, worsening his financial situation and placing an even greater burden on his family. Our medical partner, IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital, is helping David receive treatment. On July 10th, he will undergo a fracture repair surgery to help regain the use of his arm, rebuild his life, and provide for his young daughter. Now, David needs help to fund this $1,500 procedure. He says: "I look forward to using my hand again without pain, so I can return to work, care for my family, and do the everyday tasks I have been unable to do. I am hopeful this surgery will restore my strength, independence, and allow me to live a normal life again."
