Abraham is a shy boy with a big heart from Ethiopia. He loves playing football with his friends and enjoys spending time with his younger sister. He is also passionate about learning the Afan Oromo language. He lives with his parents and sister in a small, rented house, where they share laughter and dreams. His mother is a devoted housewife, while his father works as a daily laborer in construction. Despite their hard work, making ends meet can be challenging, and sometimes his father takes on extra night shifts as a housekeeper to support the family.
Since birth, Abraham has had an umbilical hernia. His parents noticed a bulge near his umbilicus, which was later diagnosed as an umbilical hernia, a congenital defect caused by a weakness in the abdominal wall. Initially, his mother hoped the condition would resolve on its own and did not seek immediate medical attention.
When Abraham fell ill with tonsillitis at the age of two, the doctor advised his mother to treat the hernia, but she was overwhelmed with worry about the medical costs. In tears, she felt helpless and unsure of how they would afford the necessary care. During subsequent visits to the health center, however, doctors emphasized the urgent need for surgical intervention. Determined, she began seeking health insurance for the family. Fortunately, on February 20th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $512 to fund Abraham’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently.
Abraham’s mother shared, “I wish for my child to come out of the surgery safely, praying that God would bless the caregivers for their services.”
