Her husband died more that eight years ago from stroke after a long struggle. Alice tends to the house and farms her plot of land in central Kenya. Three of her children have completed high school and are casual workers, while the other three are still in school.
Recently, Alice started experiencing pain in her lower-right abdomen along with irregular menstrual periods. She learned that this was being caused by ovarian cysts that will keep growing unless she has surgery.
