Porng is a 72-year-old married homemaker from Cambodia. She enjoys visiting the pagoda in her town and listening to the monks pray.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) shares, “Two years ago, Porng developed a cataract in each eye. This causes her to be partially blind, and experience tearing, burning, and to be afraid of the bright sunshine.”
Porng adds, “I can’t see everything clearly and it is hard to do my work or go anywhere by myself.”
Porng has traveled three hours to visit our medical partner after learning her neighbor had successful surgery at CSC for her cataracts. For $225, Porng can receive a small incision cataract surgery and intraocular lens implant in both eyes. This surgery will help her to regain her eyesight.
“I hope I can see everything clearly again,” Porng says. “I hope I can easily go walking anywhere by myself.”

Porng underwent surgery to restore her vision.
After a brief, 40-minute procedure to replace her clouded lenses with artificial implants, Porng can see clearly again. “Her surgery went well,” reports our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Center (CSC). “She has been instructed to apply eye drops daily to protect herself from infection.”
“I feel very happy that I can see everything clearly again and now I can easily do any work like cooking food, cleaning my home, taking care of my grandchild at home very well,” Porng says. “I can easily go anywhere outside like the pagoda or market by myself very well too.”
