Dessonlove is a nine month old infant boy from Haiti. He is the youngest child in a large family. Dessonlove has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain, and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, Dessonlove has been experiencing a persistent growth in the circumference of his head. Without treatment, Dessonlove will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, Project Medishare, is requesting $897 to cover the cost of surgery for Dessonlove, at Hospital Bernard Mevs. This is the only site in the country where hydrocephalus care and treatment are currently available. This critical procedure is scheduled to take place on March 30th, when surgeons will drain the excess fluid from Dessonlove's brain to reduce intracranial pressure, and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Dessonlove should develop into a strong, healthy young boy. Dessonlove's family is hopeful and looking forward to their child being able to grow and thrive with this care.

Joel is a 23-year-old from Kenya and the third-born in his family. His parents separated, and Joel moved from his hometown after completing high school to pursue work as a bodaboda rider (motorcycle taxi) to earn a living. Finding driving work can be inconsistent, and motorcycle accidents have been increasing lately in Kenya. In March, Joel was driving with two passengers when they were hit in a hit-in-run by an overtaking vehicle. The passengers were not hurt, but Joel landed on his knees, sustained bruises, and fractured his right femur. He is in pain and unable to walk or work as a result of his injuries. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), can help Joel heal. On April 3rd, Joel will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation, to relieve his pain and allow him to walk and resume work. AMH is requesting $1,049 to fund this procedure. Joel shared: “I am lying here in bed desperate. I kindly plead for support so that I can be back on my feet. My parents are not together and cannot even make it to help me.”

Savoeun is a 67 year-old motorbike taxi driver from Battambang province. He​ is married, and has two sons, three daughters, and five grandchildren. Currently, he lives with his wife, who sells groceries in front of their home. Two of his children still live at home and go to school. In his downtime, he likes relaxing with his phone and looking at Facebook. Two years ago, Savoeun developed a cataract in his left eye. He is uncomfortable, and his vision is impaired, all of which interfere with his ability to live confidently and independently. Savoeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, and sought their help. On January 11th, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform cataract surgery, and implant an intraocular lens in his left eye. After recovery, Savoeun will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. Savouen shared: "I hope my vision improves. I want to be able to drive my motorbike easily for my job."
