Rowela is a mother of three from the Philippines who works hard to raise her family. Her husband traveled abroad to try to build a livelihood and is able to send some funds home to support the family.
Ten years ago, Rowela noticed a lump in her breast but refused to have it checked because of fear. As time passed by, she felt pain in her breast area which became more frequent.
Rowela has now been diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. Without treatment, the cancer may spread to other organs. Doctors explained that Rowela needs a mastectomy, surgery to remove breast tissue, to rid her body of breast cancer, and to prevent the cancer from metastasizing.
Fortunately, our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), is helping Rowela receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a mastectomy on May 11th at Our Lady of Peace Hospital. A portion of the cost of her treatment is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and WSFP is raising $1058 to cover the remaining cost. After treatment, Rowela will hopefully return to a cancer-free life.
Rowela shared, “I hope Watsi and its donors can help me extend my life. I want to live longer for my children. I want to see them all graduate and have their own families. I look forward to having grandchildren. Thank you for considering me to be a beneficiary of this free surgery. Thank you for giving me and my family hope.”
