Tusingwire is a single mother to two children in Uganda. Her oldest is 10 years old and the younger one is eight years old–both are in school studying. She recently separated with her husband and decided to stay with her brother. Tusingwire currently operates a tea kiosk room in Rukungiri town.
Tusingwire presented at the hospital complaining of lower abdominal pain for over two years. She has abdominal discomfort and complains of back pain whenever she bends while picking something. Tusingwire had never been to a hospital for medical treatment for her condition because she couldn’t afford any money for treatment or consultation. But her pain worsened and she informed her brother who knew of the surgical support program at Nyakibale hospital.
Tusingwire was seen by the doctor and they recommended that she first do a scan to confirm a diagnosis. When scan results indicated a pelvic mass, the doctor recommended she undergo a curative laparotomy treatment for a complete recovery from her condition. She needs financial support for cover $242 for the treatment.
Tusingyire shared, “I am in deep pain and I have nothing to do. I look forward to receiving surgery and once I have recovered, I will be able to resume with my business.”
