“I hope that my baby will be able to step on his foot normally and walk,” shares Josia’s mother.
Josia is a quiet one-year-old boy from Tanzania. After being born safely at home, “Josia was taken to the hospital later on for further examination because his right leg was not normal,” our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF), tells us.
Josia was born with his right toe connected to the distal part of his right leg (right above the ankle),” AMHF continues. “At that time, Josia’s parents were informed that there is nothing that can be done so they should wait for the baby to grow up a little bit.” However, as Josia learns to walk, the contracture will force him to step on his heel when walking.
Josia is the last-born child in a family of six children. To support their family, Josia’s parents are small-scale farmers, growing and selling maize, beans and sweet and irish potatoes. “With three children going to school, their income is not enough to cover their basic needs as well as pay the cost of Josia’s surgery,” explains AMHF.
Let’s raise $550 to fund the single contracture release treatment Josia needs to repair his right foot. “The release will allow Josia to be able to step on his right foot properly and improve his gait,” AMHF tells us. Let’s get young Josia back crawling around and taking steps freely!
