Key is a hardworking 30-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He lives in Oddar Meanchey province with his parents, who are rice farmers supporting a large family. He is the third of six siblings. Some of his brothers and sisters work in factories, while others help with farming. Despite financial challenges, the family works together to earn income and support one another. In his free time, he helps his parents with farm work and enjoys listening to music on the radio. Five months ago, Key fell on a slippery road during heavy rain, causing a serious injury and paralysis to his right arm. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his right side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. He was first treated at the provincial hospital, where he underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) surgery for a humerus fracture. Although the surgery stabilized the bone, he continues to experience significant pain, weakness, and an inability to lift his right arm properly. This limits his ability to perform daily tasks and prevents him from working effectively as a farmer. He also sought Khmer traditional medicine treatment, which reduced some pain, but his arm function has not fully returned. Key traveled to our medical partner's care center, Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, to receive treatment. This is the only center in the whole country where this treatment is available. On March 3rd, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, he will regain the ability to perform daily activities and return to farming work more independently. Key can contribute $100 toward his care, but our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, needs $637 more to fund the procedure and his care. Key said with hope, “Even though the pain is better now, my arm is still weak and I cannot use it normally. I truly hope that with proper treatment, I will regain my strength and be able to work and live independently again.”

Stanley is a 64-year-old father of four from Malawi. To provide income for his family, Stanley works as a car sales representative and at a local motorcycle shop, though he admits that his income is often insufficient to fully support them. For the past six months, Stanley has been experiencing abdominal swelling and discomfort. At first, the symptoms were subtle, but over the last two weeks they have become more severe, leaving him with increasing pain and difficulty in walking. This has made both work and home life very challenging. Stanley has been diagnosed with a bilateral inguinal hernia, a condition that occurs when abdominal tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the lower abdominal muscles. Stanley needs a hernia repair procedure, but with his current income, he cannot afford the cost of surgery. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Stanley undergo hernia repair surgery on April 20th. This procedure will cost $500, and Stanley needs your support to fund the procedure. Stanley said, “I am struggling with this condition, which has made my life very difficult. I wish to be able to work and provide for my family again, without pain. I truly hope I can receive support, because I cannot manage raising the funds on my own.”

Dalin is a 12-year-old student from Cambodia who lives in a rural area with her mother and younger sister. Her parents divorced ten years ago, and her mother now works at a food court in a garment factory to support the family. Dalin enjoys studying English and hopes to become a teacher when she grows up. In her free time, she likes listening to English music and doing her homework. Five weeks ago, Dalin slipped and fell in the bathroom, injuring her left elbow. She sustained a fracture and has since been experiencing pain and difficulty lifting her left arm. This has made everyday activities such as dressing, studying, and helping at home challenging. After the accident, her mother sought treatment through traditional medicine, but Dalin’s condition did not improve. Dalin was later evaluated by surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, who determined that she requires fracture repair surgery. Without treatment, her injury may continue to limit her movement and cause ongoing pain. Dalin is scheduled to undergo fracture repair surgery on February 2nd. She needs help to raise $600 to fund her procedure. With treatment, Dalin hopes to regain full use of her arm and return to school activities comfortably. “After the surgery, I hope my daughter will no longer have pain and will be able to use her hand properly, so she can focus more on her studies,” said Dalin’s mother.
