Khin is a 65-year-old woman who lives with her daughter, son-in-law, and three grandchildren in Tak Province, Thailand. Three years ago Khin, who is retired, moved to Thailand from Burma in order to live with her daughter. Currently, the vision in Khin’s right eye is blurred as a result of a cataract. Khin finds it difficult to help with household chores, as she has to rely on her left eye alone. She finds that if she tries to focus on something, she develops a headache. She worries she might lose the vision in her left eye. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund lens replacement surgery for Khin. On February 23rd, doctors at Mae Sot General Hospital will perform cataract surgery, implanting an intraocular lens in Khin's eye, restoring her vision. Khin said: “I feel like I am losing an eye since I cannot see with my right eye. I am also worried about losing vision in my other eye. I am afraid to undergo surgery, but I want my vision back so that I can see people’s faces again. I feel sorry for my children, and I pity them since they need to help me with everything. I felt really happy when I learned that a donor will support my treatment cost.”

15-year-old Min, whose parents passed away five years ago, lives with his uncle and his cousins in a village on the border of Burma and Thailand. He helps his uncle with his work as a farmer. On March 19, 2023, Min accidentally hit a stopped tractor-trailer with his motorcycle while driving at night. He was unable to move due to his pain, but people who were nearby brought him to the hospital. Currently, Min continues to live in pain and is unable to move his legs. With the help of our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, Min will undergo surgery to reset his fractured bones, and ensure proper healing. The procedure is scheduled for March 19th at Mae Sot General Hospital and will cost $1,500. Now Min and his family need your help to raise the money for Min's surgery, which will enable him to walk again. Min said: "I feel sorry for the accident. I want to thank you [BCMF and the donor] for helping me get treatment. I hope for full recovery. After I get treated, I will try to help my uncle who has been raising me and taking care of me all the time.”

Muhumuza is a 46-year-old builder and father of four, living with his wife and children in Uganda. Because he wasn't formally trained, Muhumuza is usually assigned to the construction of local, semi-permanent houses. However, these jobs are difficult to come by, limiting his ability to earn a steady income. His wife grows food crops on a small scale, on the limited land that they have. Muhumuza went to the doctor because of a swelling just below his right shoulder. He experiences chest pain and paralysis around the site of the swelling. This has hindered his ability to work, as he feels pain whenever he lifts a heavy object. Muhumuza traveled to our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, to receive treatment. On February 10th, surgeons at Karoli Lwanga Hospital, Nyakibale, will remove the mass. Now, Muhumuza needs your help to raise $188 to fund this procedure. Muhumuza says: “I expect to get well after being given your support to undergo my surgery, and I hope to continue building in good health."
