Vannareach is a five-year-old kindergarten student from Cambodia. He lives with his parents and his three-year-old little sister in Kampong Chhnang. Both of his parents serve in the military and are often stationed at the border, so the children stay with their elderly grandmother while their parents are away. He enjoys studying math and playing with toys along with his younger sister. For the past two years, Vannareach has been experiencing difficulty breathing and swallowing. He also snores at night and experiences recurrent throat infections about twice a month. His frequent throat infections and enlarged tonsils affect his sleep, breathing, swallowing, and overall comfort. Getting sick so often can also interfere with his ability to attend school and enjoy his usual activities. Vannareach was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $345 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Vannareach, which is scheduled to take place on August 14th. Surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Vannareach of his symptoms and helping him live much more comfortably. Vannareach's mother said, “I hope this surgery will help my son breathe and swallow more comfortably, sleep better at night, and reduce his frequent throat infections. I want him to feel healthier and return to school and his normal activities without getting sick so often.”

Three-month-old Janna lives with her parents and older brother in Bolivia. Janna's mother is a homemaker, while her father works as a technician fixing cellphones. When she was born, Janna had very little appetite and was unable to gain weight, so her parents brought her to the hospital, where doctors discovered her heart condition. Janna has a cardiac condition called a ventricular septal defect. A hole exists between the two lower chambers of her heart. Blood leaks through this hole instead of circulating normally, leaving her weak and short of breath. On July 1st, Janna will undergo cardiac surgery at our medical partner's care center, Hospital del Niño Dr. Ovidio Aliaga Uría. During the operation, surgeons will sew a patch over the hole in Janna's heart so that blood will no longer leak through it. Janna's family needs your help to fund the costs of her cardiac care and surgery. Our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, is requesting $1,500 to cover the cost of cardiac exams and diagnostics, surgical costs, follow-up care, and medications. Janna's mother said, "I pray my little daughter has a healthy heart. She is so brave, and I want to be brave for her as well."

Punleu is a 17-year-old Grade 11 student from Cambodia. He lives in Kampot Province with his parents and younger brother, who is in Grade 8. His father works as a construction contractor, and his mother stays at home to manage household duties and take care of their orange farm. Punleu enjoys studying Khmer literature. In his free time, he likes listening to music and playing volleyball with his friends in the village. He hopes to become an agricultural specialist in the future. In December 2024, Punleu was in in a motor vehicle accident that caused a fracture in his right lower leg. He was treated at a provincial hospital where he underwent ORIF surgery with plate and screw fixation of the leg. Since the surgery, he has been experiencing pain when walking long distances and stiffness in his right leg during cold weather, which affects his daily activities and mobility. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On May 18th, Punleu will undergo a hardware removal procedure to reduce pain and stiffness and improve his walking ability and overall comfort. Punleu's family is contributing to his surgery, but they need to raise an additional $303 for the procedure. Punleu says, “After the surgery, I hope I will be able to walk better without pain, regain my strength and confidence, and return to my normal daily life, studies, and activities without any limitation.”
