Ian is a 30-year-old man from Kenya. He is the firstborn in a family of three children, raised by a single mother. Ian spent most of his life living with his grandmother. As his grandmother is elderly, Ian takes care of her. He currently farms on his grandmother’s small farm. His mother and siblings are also unemployed.
About six weeks ago, Ian was visiting friends, and while descending the stairs, he fell and injured his left arm. An x-ray revealed a closed fracture of the left humerus on his upper arm. A cast was applied, and he was advised to raise money for an open reduction and internal fixation surgery (ORIF), but he was unable to do so.
As a result, he remained at home without treatment. When a staff member at our medical partner’s care center, Nazareth Hospital, learned about Ian’s condition, the hospital staff arranged to bring him to the hospital.
On September 30th, Ian will undergo ORIF surgery that will prevent malunion and enable him to heal without deformity. He will be able to use his hand again and take care of his elderly grandmother. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare is requesting $1,048 to fund this procedure.
Ian shared, “Just to reach here, I feel like I am already healed. I have a lot of hope that the donors will accept to support me so that my hand can be treated and be well again. My grandmother depends on me.”
