Besufikad is a 13-month-old joyful and lively boy from Ethiopia. He has playful energy, evident as he eagerly explores the world around him. He is the only child of his mother, a resilient single parent who works tirelessly as a daily laborer to support them both.
Besufikad’s remarkable journey began under challenging circumstances. His mother was working as a domestic worker when she gave birth to him. With no family support and having grown up in her uncle’s home, she was unable to return home. She remained in the hospital for twenty days. During that time, the compassionate hospital staff connected her with the Missionaries of Charity (MOC), who assisted her in relocating to a new home with her newborn son.
Besufikad was born with hypospadias, a condition that causes urinary dysfunction. Besufikad’s mother sought treatment support for months before she was referred to our medical partner’s care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM). With renewed hope, she and her son arrived at BKMCM, bringing them closer to a healthier future. Following assessment, it was determined that Besufikad needed surgery treatment. Without it, he would continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms, and will be at risk of infertility.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Besufikad receive treatment. On July 7th, he will undergo corrective surgery, allowing him to live a healthier life and reducing the risk of future medical complications. Now, Besufikad’s family needs help to fund this $1,293 procedure.
Besufikad’s mother said, “I believe that my son will recover and grow to be like other healthy boys.”
