Muth is a 70-year-old woman with five sons, four daughters, and fourteen grandchildren. She likes to listen to monks pray on the radio and go to the pagoda.
Two years ago, Muth developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurred vision, burning, itchiness, cloudy lenses, and extreme sensitivity to light. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going anywhere outside.
When Muth learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for four hours with her son seeking treatment. On October 26, doctors performed small incision cataract surgery in each eye and inserted intraocular lens implants. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly again. Now, Muth needs help to fund this $292 procedure.
“I hope my eyes can see everything more clearly,” she says, “so that I can do any work and go anywhere outside by myself.”

Muth successfully received vision-restoring cataract surgery.
Muth’s eye cataract was successfully removed from her left eye and clear vision has been restored. Following the operation, she was given eye drops to reduce inflammation and fight infection. Muth went home after the first surgery and has yet to return to have the same operation completed in the other eye. Because returning to the clinic requires taking a day off from work and usually a family escort, she may have had trouble finding a day to come back. Also, because she left with clear vision in one eye, her problems with blurred vision are less of a burden making the second surgery a less immediate priority than the first. The second surgery will be free whenever Muth returns.
“I am very happy that my mother can see everything clearly again,” says Muth’s son. “I don’t have to worry about her vision loss. I am thankful.”
