Kenneth is from Mtambwa Village, Traditional Authority Chitekwere, in Lilongwe District Malawi. He is the youngest of 5 children in his family. All of Kenneth’s siblings are in primary school. Kenneth’s parents are farmers, they grow maize and soya beans and do daily work such as fetching water, going to the maize mill, and washing for different households.
Kenneth has been experiencing painful swelling on the right side of his groin for 2 years. His mother took him to a nearby health center where he was given drugs, but his condition didn’t improve. Kenneth’s mother then decided to bring Kenneth to Nkhoma Hospital. Kenneth was diagnosed with a right inguinal hernia, and he is scheduled to undergo hernia repair surgery on February 6th. Kenneths parents are willing to have their son treated but are unable to pay for the surgery.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is seeking $421 to fund Kenneth’s hernia surgery. This condition has had a negative impact on Kenneth’s life as he feels frequent abdominal pain, and he cannot play, but has to stay home with his mother. When is mother is home with him it prevents her from working. If Kenneth’s condition is left untreated, it may lead to strangulation which can be life-threatening. This treatment will relieve him of the pain, and he won’t risk the complications associated with this condition.
Kenneth’s mother says, “I will be so happy to see my son treated and free of this condition.”
