Vanna is a 45-year-old tuk-tuk driver who lives in Kampong Cham province with his wife, one son and one daughter. They all live together in a small rented room in town. His son is a construction worker, and his wife and daughter are cleaners in a restaurant. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music. Vanna suffers from diabetes and has had problems with diabetic retinopathy - a complication of diabetes, caused by high blood sugar levels damaging the back of the eye (retina). About three months ago, the retina of Vanna's right eye detached, causing him to have small dark spots that float across his vision, flashes of light in his eye and partial blindness. When Vanna learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled there hoping for treatment. On October 8th, eye surgeons will perform a retinal detachment repair procedure in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly again. Now, he needs help raising $599 to fund his medical care. Vanna shared: "I hope after surgery my eye can see well again. And, I can drive my tuk-tuk well again."

Rahab is a 51-year-old woman from Kenya. She is married and has three children. Rahab and her husband used to work, but when COVID-19 struck, they both lost their jobs. Struggling to sustain their family, they returned to their family home, where they now engage in small-scale farming. Although their income is limited, it is enough to cover their family's basic needs. For about a year, Rahab has been experiencing intermittent, excessive bleeding. She initially sought treatment at a nearby hospital but was eventually referred to our medical partner's care center, Nazareth Hospital, where she was diagnosed with uterine fibroids. Unfortunately, due to their current financial situation, Rahab and her husband cannot afford the cost of the surgery and need assistance. If left untreated, Rahab will continue to experience bleeding, which could lead to complications such as anemia. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $657 to fund Rahab's surgery. On September 27th, she will undergo gynecological surgery that will help Rahab resume her daily activities free of pain. Rahab said “I have been weak due to excessive bleeding, and I live in fear of the unknown because of the fibroids, I am unable to afford the treatment advised and seek your help to restore my health. After the treatment, I will be able to work to provide for my family”

Damaris is a 46-year-old woman from Kenya. Damaris used to work as a domestic worker, relying on household jobs like cleaning and doing laundry to support her two children. Damaris lives with her two children, one grandchild, and her mother. They rely on well-wishers for daily meals and basic needs. Damaris has been having issues with her health since 2021. Doctors have been able to treat her other health conditions successfully. However, during a follow-up visit in April 2024, scans revealed a growth in her kidney. This growth has caused elevated blood pressure and poses a serious risk to her life. Damaris now urgently requires a laparotomy surgery to remove the kidney growth. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,500 to fund Damaris's surgery. On September 4th, she will undergo surgery and once completed, she will hopefully have an improved quality of life. Damaris says, “My family has been experiencing tough times, I hope to get better so that I can go back to work and help my family.”
