Mary has an esophageal stricture due to a previous injury. She has had eight dilatations in order to enable her to be able to eat. She has great difficulty swallowing and if she does not receive surgery she will become severely malnourished.
Mary is 26 and currently living in Kenya with her mother and siblings. Mary has had very little education and is unable to work anymore.
Even though Mary is unable to work or go to school, she has not given up hope! “I would like to go back to school so that I can be an electrical engineer,” she says.
For $1,500, we can help Mary have an esophagectomy which will be followed by a dilatation. This will allow her to eat normally and avoid severe malnutrition. Let’s help Mary to regain her independence and pursue her interests.
