Kamal, a six-year-old boy, lives with his loving family on a farm in Nepal. Our medical partner, Possible, says that Kamal helps with farming by collecting fodder and bringing the cattle out to graze.
One day while playing on top of a rock at the nearby river, Kamal slipped and fell off, fracturing his right elbow. Now, Kamal is in too much pain to use his right hand at all. As a result, he has been unable to write and attend school successfully.
Because of his current injury, “Kamal is very restless. He cannot sit in one place for long, always fidgety,” shares his mother.
With $579, an orthopedic surgeon can surgically reset Kamal’s broken elbow, secure it with pins, and place it in a cast to expedite the healing process.
Funds will cover surgical costs, necessary medication, and post-operative care. After surgery, Kamal will be able to slowly rebuild his strength. He will no longer experience pain and discomfort, and will be able to return to school.

Kamal received treatment for his fractured elbow.
“Kamal’s fractured bones were aligned correctly and secured,” reports our medical partner, Possible. In order to regain mobility in his elbow, Kamal will have to undergo physiotherapy exercises. Possible stresses the importance of these exercises, sharing, “because he’s a growing child, he needs to follow the physiotherapy routine as rigorously as possible, even though it may hurt a little in the beginning.”
Although there might be some discomfort in the beginning, Possible is confident that “if Kamal does follow the recommended exercise, he will regain all of his mobility.” Kamal’s father is excited that his son should make a full recovery, but he expresses that he hopes Kamal has “become cautious after his injury.”
