Sovann is a friendly 14-year-old student from Cambodia. He lives with his mother and two siblings in Kandal province. His parents are divorced, and his mother works in a local factory to support the family. He is currently in the ninth grade and enjoys geography, history, and mathematics. At home, he likes to eat fried eggs, soup, and milk, and play football with his friends. Sovann would like to join the army when he is old enough. For six years, Sovann has been experiencing sore throats and difficulty swallowing. He snores at night and often experiences hoarseness in the mornings, making it difficult for him to talk. He was treated at a private clinic with medication, but his condition did not improve. The frequent illness has caused him to miss school. Sovann was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $265 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Sovann, which is scheduled to take place on April 28th. Surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Sovann of his symptoms and helping him live much more comfortably. Sovann said: "I hope it will be easy to breathe again and I will feel good enough to play football with my friends."

Meet Charity, a resilient businesswoman, and mother of two children. Her educational journey was cut short when she reached class four of secondary school due to the untimely demise of her parents, leaving her without any support. Due to misunderstandings with her husband, they separated, prompting her to venture into her own business. Through sheer determination and hard work, she managed to build a two-room permanent house and provide education for her children. Her daughter is currently attending university, while her son completed secondary school up to class six. To sustain herself and her family, Charity buys and sells secondhand clothes. Three years ago, Charity noticed a small swelling on her neck. Her brother, who was in South Africa, brought her some medicine, which temporarily made the swelling disappear. After two years, the swelling returned, albeit painlessly. However, recently, she has been experiencing troubling symptoms, including neck pain while swallowing and obstruction in her airway. The strain on her neck becomes evident when she carries heavy loads on her head or bends down to pack bedsheets for the market. Upon medical evaluation, Charity was diagnosed with a nodular goiter. To prevent her symptoms from worsening, she requires a thyroidectomy. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is extending a helping hand to Charity for her treatment. The scheduled thyroidectomy will take place on August 2nd at our partner's care center, where skilled surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. The total cost of this procedure is $333, and Charity and her family need assistance in raising the funds. Etchna is a toddler from Haiti. She lives with her parents and several siblings in the mountains of southwest Haiti, where her parents are both farmers. Etchna has a cardiac condition called Tetralogy of Fallot. This birth condition involves several related defects, including a hole between the two lower chambers of the heart and a muscular blockage of one of the valves. These defects prevent enough blood from passing through Etchna's lungs, depriving her of oxygen and leaving her weak and short of breath. The care that she needs is not available anywhere in Haiti, so Etchna will fly to the Cayman Islands to receive treatment. There, on June 28th, she will undergo cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will close the hole in Etchna's heart with a patch and remove the blockage from her valve. Another organization, Have a Heart Cayman, will also contribute $18,000 for her surgery. However, Etchna's family needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep, travel, and follow-up. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, checkups, and follow-up appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Etchna's family overseas. Her mother said: "Our family is praying that Etchna will be able to become healthy and normal after this surgery."
