Raymond is a 59-year-old farmer from Tanzania who lives with his wife and five children. Raymond strives to provide education for all of his children, believing that education will enable them to be independent. His wife does chores in other people’s houses in order to raise money, and while Raymond used to farm, he can no longer do so due to the pain that he experiences in his knee.
After starting to experience pain in his left knee that often prevented him from walking long distances or getting out of bed, Raymond sought out treatment. Eventually, he came to our medical partner’s care center, Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre, in order to see an orthopedic specialist. He was told that he needs surgery and that, if not treated, Raymond will continue to experience pain and may even lose function in his leg.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $822 to cover the cost of Raymond’s total knee replacement surgery, which he is scheduled to receive on June 16.
“I will be happy if I get the treatment so that I may go back to work on my farm and take care of my children,” Raymond says.
