Gloria is a delightful and bubbly little girl. According to her mother, Gloria is such a happy child and rarely cries unless when hungry. The family resides in Central Kenya in a two room house. Gloria’s parents are subsistence farmers with no external source of income.
Unlike all her four siblings, Gloria’s head began increasing in size when she was barely three months old. Gloria was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition that is caused by excessive fluid in the head. Upon diagnosis, Gloria was referred for specialized treatment. Her parents never hesitated. They were asked to buy a shunt to drain the fluid but having exhausted all they had on a scan, they were not able to. Due to lack of funds, they gave up hope of having Gloria treated.
Two weeks ago, their hopes were revived when medics from Bethany Kids, a Watsi partner hospital, visited their locality through a mobile clinic and advised them to visit the hospital.
For $615, we can fund the life-saving brain surgery Gloria needs. If left untreated, Gloria may suffer brain damage and even become blind. We can help prevent these long-term complications, and allow Gloria to grow up healthy.
“I have hopes that Gloria will get treated,” her mother said.
