Jalu Devi is a 55-year-old woman living in Nepal. Her husband left her for another woman 16 years ago. Since then she has struggled to raise her two young sons. Jalu Devi owns a small piece of land that only yields enough to feed her small family for three months. For the rest of the year, she sells the milk and butter from her buffalo, any vegetables she has left, and eggs from her hens.
To make matters even more challenging, Jalu Devi has had a worsening uterine prolapse for the last 10 years. She has been unable to cover the medical costs, so she has been forced to live with the painful and embarrassing condition.
For $995, we can cover the cost of a hysterectomy, the procedure Jalu Devi needs to improve her quality of life. Jalu Devi says that her only goal in life is to support her sons so they can grow up to become respectable members of their community.
