Srey Deen was born with a rare congenital condition called a meningoencephalocele, which is caused by failure of the neural tube to close completely during fetal development. This has led to a disfigurement in Srey Deen's face, which makes her extremely self-conscious. In second grade, Srey Deen stopped attending school because she was too shy and scared. The condition also puts her at continual risk of meningitis and brain hemorrhages. The only treatment for this condition is surgery. For the rest of the year, she sells the milk and butter from her buffalo, any vegetables she has left, and eggs from her hens. To make matters even more challenging, Jalu Devi has had a worsening uterine prolapse for the last 10 years. She has been unable to cover the medical costs, so she has been forced to live with the painful and embarrassing condition. Throughout her life, Bao has experienced fatigue and she is unable to “walk very far without experiencing heart palpitations and shortness of breath.” Because of her heart disease, Bao is unable to work to help support her family and pay for her medical bills. She “hopes to get well soon, be healthy and happy and normal.” For $2,000, we can fund Bao's cardiac surgery and help her regain a healthy and happy life!

Crecencia is a vibrant woman from Guatemala with locally advanced cervical cancer. Crecencia's tumor is so large that it cannot be removed - it must be targeted with external beam radiation therapy. If Crecencia is not treated immediately, there is a high chance the cancer will kill her. Crecencia's husband passed away from a chronic illness. Even more tragically, four of her five children were recently killed in an car accident. Crecencia is left with her youngest child and limited family support. She cannot afford treatment on her own.
