Mariko is a three-year-old boy living in Uganda with his parents and five siblings. He is looking forward to starting school in the near future. Mariko developed intermittent swelling in his inguinal region two years ago. He was taken to a nearby clinic and was given medication. Since his visit to the clinic, he has lived on the medication, without experiencing any improvement. In fact, the swelling has increased in size and often prevents him from passing urine. He frequently cries because of the pain. Recently, a friend advised Mariko's mother to bring him to our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation. Once there, he was diagnosed with a right inguinal hernia and it was determined that he would require a procedure to correct his condition. Fortunately, on May 5th, Mariko will undergo hernia repair surgery at Rushoroza Hospital. African Mission Healthcare Foundation is requesting $170 to fund Mariko's surgery. Once completed, this procedure should allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Mariko's mother said: “I pray that my son may get well through surgery so that he may be able to start schooling.”

Thy is a 49-year-old rice farmer living in rural Cambodia. Together, he and his wife have two sons, three daughters and one grandchild. His wife also works as a rice farmer. When he has free time, Thy enjoys watching Cambodian boxing. One year ago, Thy developed a cataract in his left eye. The cataract obscures his vision, and makes his eye tear and itch. As a result of his discomfort and visual impairment, Thy feels that he is less able to go about his life independently. Thy learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, and sought their help. On January 23rd, doctors at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform cataract surgery, and implant an intraocular lens in Thy's left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs your help to fund this $253 procedure. Thy said: "I hope after surgery I can work more, help my wife do housework, and take care of our grandchild."

Dah is a 63-year-old woman from Thailand. She lives with her daughter, two sons, and a daughter-in-law in a village on the Thai-Burma border. They all make and sell traditional rice wine, and grow and sell vegetables on their small farm. In her free time, Dah enjoys watching television and working on her small farm. On the morning of February 3rd, one of her sons drove her and her other son to their farmland. The road was undulating and full of potholes. Suddenly, their motorbike slid and they all fell off. Both her sons were fine, but Dah broke her left femur. As a result, Dah cannot walk or move her left leg and is in a lot of pain. With the help of our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, Dah will undergo surgery to reset her fractured bones and ensure proper healing. The procedure is scheduled for February 3rd and will help her walk free of pain. Dah and her family need help raising $1,500 to funder her procedure and care. "I worry that I will not be able to walk like before", she said. "If I cannot walk I don't know how I will be able to work on our farmland."
