Eveless is a 28-year-old woman from Dzuwa Village in Lilongwe District in Malawi. She grew up in a farming family, and has been involved in farming for most of her life. She was unable to complete primary school, but she has always found purpose in working with her family.
In October 2024, Eveless and her husband discovered they were expecting a child. It was a moment of happiness and hope for them. But not long afterwards, Eveless began experiencing complications. She was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy. Further examination revealed she was also living with a condition called Hirschsprung’s disease, which affects her intestines and prevents her from passing stool normally.
Eveless underwent major surgery to remove the affected part of her colon. A temporary stoma was created, allowing her to pass stool through an opening in her abdomen and into a stoma bag. Since then, she has received care at our medical partner’s care center, Nkhoma Hospital, where she goes for regular stoma bag changes and nutrition support. Her recovery has been steady, and her health has improved. The next step in her treatment is a stoma reversal — a procedure where the stoma is closed, and the bowel is reconnected internally.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is looking to raise $709 to fund Eveless’ surgery, which is scheduled for April 28th. Eveless is looking forward to completing her treatment, so that she can regain her health and independence, return to farming, and grow her family.
Eveless said, “I look forward to recovering so I can go back to farming. I want to be strong and happy again, and plan for another child. I want to live normally, without depending on others.”
