Gideon is a 51-year-old man from Kenya. He and his wife depend on farming as their primary source of income.
In January 2026, Gideon noticed a swelling in his lower abdomen. At first, it caused only mild discomfort, so he hoped it would resolve on its own. Instead, the swelling became increasingly painful, making it difficult for him to walk, stand, and carry out his daily activities. When the pain became unbearable, Gideon sought medical care at our medical partner’s care center, AIC Kijabe Hospital, and was diagnosed with a right inguinal hernia. Unfortunately, Gideon’s national health insurance does not cover the cost of the surgery that he needs, leaving him responsible for paying out of pocket. As his adult children are supporting their own families, they are unable to assist with the cost of the operation.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Gideon receive the care that he needs. He is now scheduled to undergo hernia repair surgery on July 8th. He needs help raising $707 to cover the cost of his procedure and care. Once he recovers, he is expected to live a healthier and more comfortable life.
Gideon said, “Whenever the pain strikes, I can’t stand or walk. All I can do is sit down, take pain medication, and wait for it to ease.”
