Dave is 31 years old and a farmer from the Philippines. He is the sole caregiver for his father, who has hypertension and gout. He works as a farmer, raising chickens and planting root crops. He admits that his work does not earn much, and his limited income makes it hard for him and his father to meet their daily needs. At times, his siblings help by giving money to pay for electricity, water, and his father’s medicines. Dave first noticed swelling and pain when he was in high school. By the time he reached college, the pain was unbearable. It comes and goes, and each time it happens, he finds it difficult to walk and carry out his daily activities. Dave was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia and needs surgery. Fortunately, our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines, can help. On January 28th, Dave will undergo hernia repair surgery to address his symptoms and allow him to live more comfortably. He needs help to raise $1,121 to fund his procedure and care. Dave shared, "I have always worried that my hernia would get worse. With surgery, I hope I will no longer feel afraid every day. I want to work properly again and be free from the heavy feeling of constantly wondering when my hernia will act up."

Chim is an 80-year-old man from Kompong Cham Province, Cambodia. He lives with his wife, who stays at home and manages household tasks. Together, they have five children, all of whom are married and live in nearby villages. During the Khmer New Year on April 13th, Chim fell from a motorbike while riding on a slippery road. He immediately developed severe right hip pain. An X-ray performed at a private clinic confirmed a fracture of the right hip. Since the accident, he has only been taking painkillers for symptom relief, but continues to experience persistent pain and difficulty walking. This condition has significantly affected Chim's mobility and independence, making it difficult for him to perform daily activities or move around comfortably. He is currently unable to return to his normal routine due to ongoing pain and limited function. Chim presented to the Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) for further evaluation and appropriate management. He is scheduled for a partial hip replacement on April 21st to repair the hip fracture, to reduce pain, restore mobility, and improve his quality of life. Chim can contribute $100, but needs help raising an additional $612 to fund his procedure and care. Chim said, “I feel constant pain in my hip, and it makes it very difficult for me to walk or work. I hope I can receive proper treatment so I can recover and return to my normal life.”

Vantha is a 64-year-old woman from Cambodia. She enjoys doing household chores, feeding her pets, and growing vegetables around her home. Vantha lives with her husband, who is blind, and her children, who work in garment factories. She has four children, but sadly, two of them died in a traffic accident. On January 3rd, Vantha slipped and fell on a wet floor, causing her to fracture her right wrist. She experiences severe pain, especially when using her hand. This makes it difficult for her to perform daily activities, such as cooking, carrying objects, and doing other household tasks. After the injury, Vantha's family took her to a traditional Khmer practitioner for treatment. However, despite taking pain medication, she continues to experience severe pain. Since her condition did not improve, Vantha decided to go to Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) for further evaluation and management. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On February 18th, Vantha will undergo a fracture repair procedure. CSC is requesting $600 to cover the cost of her treatment. The surgery will significantly relieve Vantha's pain, restore movement in her wrist, and allow her to use her hand normally. This will help her perform daily activities more comfortably and independently. Vantha said, “I want to be free from pain and able to move my wrist easily again. I hope after the surgery, I can live more comfortably and not worry about the pain every time I use my hand.”
