Hellen is a nine-year-old girl from Uganda. She is currently in Primary 2, and has big hopes for a brighter future through education. Her parents rely on small-scale subsistence farming, mainly growing beans and millet. The income from farming is very limited and only helps meet the family’s basic needs.
For about eight months now, Hellen has had an epigastric hernia, which is a bulge occurring in the upper abdomen, caused by tissue pushing through weak abdominal muscles. The condition has been causing her significant pain and discomfort.
Upon review at the hospital, doctors have recommended that Hellen should undergo a repair surgery, scheduled for September 10th. The procedure will help relieve her discomfort, enabling her to continue enjoying her childhood, and attending school without the burden of the condition. Now, Hellen’s family needs help to raise this $201 procedure.
Hellen’s stepmother says, “I am happy and thankful to God for protecting my child up to this time. Although I don’t have money to cover the operation, I am hopeful that we will get support from the donor program. I will keep farming and work hard to support my family.’’
