Elsa is a 24-year-old mother of one and is expecting her second child. Elsa and her husband work as maize and bean farmers in Kenya but Elsa has been very nauseous during her pregnancy which makes it difficult for her to work. What’s worse is that Elsa’s nausea has made it difficult for her to eat and drink as much as she should to stay healthy for her baby.
Through visits with trained health professionals at our partner, Lwala Community Alliance, Elsa learned proper washing and hygiene practices that will prevent the spread of diseases caused by germs to her and her baby. Elsa is eager to complete her healthy pregnancy by giving birth in a health facility, but she cannot afford it on her own.
For $215, Elsa will be able to give birth in a health facility. This fee will ensure that a skilled health professional attends the delivery and that qualified clinicians are readily available to provide further advanced care if needed.
