Flora and her husband are subsistence vegetable farmers in Kenya. They sell the extra maize and beans for spending money, but Flora is pregnant and worried about how they will afford preparation for their new baby. To make matters more complicated, 30-year-old Flora is experiencing severe lower back pain and leg swelling that makes it difficult for her to farm and contribute to her growing family's livelihood. Flora dreams of starting a business of her own at the local market where she will earn enough money to buy clothes and diapers for her baby and enough nutritious food to make sure she is a strong and healthy mother. To do this, Flora must receive adequate maternal healthcare during and immediately following her baby's delivery. For $215, we can make sure Flora gives birth in a health facility. This fee will ensure that a qualified nurse attends the delivery and that trained clinicians are on call to provide further advanced medical care if needed. Let's make sure Flora and her baby have a healthy start to their future as a family!

Naing Htun is a 40-year-old father of four who lives with his parents, his wife, and his children in Burma. Naing Htun used to work as a carpenter, but in 2009 he had a stroke and lost mobility on the left side of his body. Naing Htun can now walk on his own, but he is now facing another problem. He frequently feels weak and tired, and after seeking medical treatment at the local hospital, he was diagnosed with cardiac disease. Naing Htun cannot afford hospital fees or prescriptions because he is out of work. His wife and daughters barely make enough money in their vegetable sales and factory jobs to support the family. For $2,000, Naing Htun will receive cardiac surgery at a local hospital. This operation will remove the diseased heart tissue and eliminate his symptoms of fatigue, heavy breathing, and heart palpitations so that Naing Htun can return to supporting his family.

Elsa is a 24-year-old mother of one and is expecting her second child. Elsa and her husband work as maize and bean farmers in Kenya but Elsa has been very nauseous during her pregnancy which makes it difficult for her to work. What's worse is that Elsa's nausea has made it difficult for her to eat and drink as much as she should to stay healthy for her baby. Through visits with trained health professionals at our partner, Lwala Community Alliance, Elsa learned proper washing and hygiene practices that will prevent the spread of diseases caused by germs to her and her baby. Elsa is eager to complete her healthy pregnancy by giving birth in a health facility, but she cannot afford it on her own. For $215, Elsa will be able to give birth in a health facility. This fee will ensure that a skilled health professional attends the delivery and that qualified clinicians are readily available to provide further advanced care if needed.
