Kumkeyani is a 69-year-old farmer who lives with his wife in a village in Malawi’s Central Region. He and his wife live nearby their five children and 10 grandchildren. To support the family, Kumkeyani works on a farm and assists with building houses. In his free time, he enjoys playing Bawo, a game using a wooden board and small stones or bottle caps.
For the past two years, Kumkeyani has been experiencing symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate. Prostate gland enlargement can cause urination difficulty and is more commonly found in older men. Although this is a benign condition and can be successfully treated surgically, Kumkeyani has been unable to work, which is jeopardizing the well-being of his family.
$726 funds Kumkeyyani’s prostate resection, a minimally invasive surgery which will remove part of the prostate gland. The surgery will improve the flow of urine through the urethra.
Kumkeyani and his family are hopeful about the surgery and believe that it will go well. They are ready for him to get well and return home so he can continue his life, pain-free.
