Roberto is a resilient 56-year-old man from the Philippines. He is currently unemployed and relies on his brother for food and daily support. He had previously worked as a messenger but had to stop after being advised by the doctor to avoid lifting heavy objects. Two months ago, Roberto was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia, a condition that occurs when abdominal tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the lower abdominal muscles, causing a bulge in the groin area. The condition has caused him anxiety and has prevented him from working. Doctors have recommended a hernia repair surgery to treat his condition. Fortunately, on May 16th, Roberto will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center, Our Lady of Peace Hospital. A portion of the cost of treatment is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation. Our medical partner is raising the remaining $1,038 to cover the cost of his surgery and care. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Neang is a 61-year-old loving grandmother from Kampong Speu province in Cambodia. She is married with two daughters, five sons, and 20 grandchildren. She lives with her husband, a retired assistant of the commune, and they are supported financially by their children. Her favorite hobby is listening to monks praying on the radio. About one year ago, Neang developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own. When Neang learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On August 13th, doctors will perform phacoemulsification cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, Neang needs help to fund this $263 procedure. She says: "I hope that after surgery my vision will improve so I can easily recognize my relatives, travel to distant places, and comfortably manage my housework."

Sophen is a 40-year-old welder from Cambodia. He is married and lives with his wife, who runs a small grocery shop, and their three children, who are all students. During his free time, he enjoys helping his wife at the grocery shop and looking after their children. In February 2023, Sophen experienced an electrical burn. At the time, he was working as a construction worker and transporting a metal object when it came into contact with an electrical cable, injuring his hands and feet. Although he received treatment, his fingers are now bent and stiff, and he has difficulty moving his fingers and wrist. He also experiences pain and tingling or numbness in his hands, which affect his ability to work and perform everyday tasks. He needs to undergo a tendon and nerve repair procedure to help regain strength and mobility. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is helping Sophen receive treatment. He is scheduled to undergo the tendon and nerve repair procedure on October 22nd. This procedure will cost $701, and Sophen and his family need your support. Sophen said, “Since the accident, it has been difficult to use my hands, especially my left hand. I hope the surgery will help me move my fingers better, take care of myself, and return to work.”
