Jeremia is a nine-month-old infant from the Ngorongoro district in Tanzania. He lives with his mother and over 20 family members in a boma, a type of family-based communal living space where the community provides for each other's basic needs. Jeremia's father works in the production and sale of sandals in the city and sends money to his family. He has been away from home for over a year. Jeremia was born with a congenital condition wherein his right leg is twisted inward and downward. After Jeremia’s birth, her mother had little to no understanding of this condition, and she has since lived with concerns about her son’s future. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), visited Ngorongoro earlier this year to hold outreach clinics. Jeremia's mother attended one of AMH's clinics and received education about her son’s condition. She was delighted to hear that treatment options were available. Jeremia's mother appealed to her church to arrange for transportation to AMH's care center in Arusha. Doctors at AMH's care center diagnosed Jeremia with clubfoot, a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on Jeremia on June 9th. After treatment, he will be able to walk more easily. Now, AMH is requesting $935 to fund Jeremia's procedure. Jeremia’s mother says, "I am happy that there is a possibility of treatment. I hope that all will go well and my son will be fine."

Edward is a hardworking father who practices small-scale farming together with his wife. They have 4 children who are all in primary school. They live in a brick house with 2 rooms, and their main source of cooking energy is firewood. Edward attended school up to primary class 3, and he could not proceed due to a lack of school fees. Edward has had a hydrocele for the past year. It started as a small painful swelling in his groin area. He decided to see a doctor after noticing blood in his urine. In addition to the swelling, he has had episodes where it is very difficult for him to use the restroom. He also feels uncomfortable while walking and can no longer walk long distances. His farming productivity has been compromised in his current condition. Fortunately, our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) can help. On September 4th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery. Edward needs help raising $170 to fully fund the surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Edward says, “After treatment, I will continue with farming which will help me meet my family’s cost of living.”

Cleophas is a 43-year-old woman from Uganda. She and her husband practice small-scale farming. They are requesting assistance with Cleophas’s medical care, as undergoing surgery will provide Cleophas with the opportunity to regain her health and resume her work farming to help support their family financially. Sixteen years ago, Cleophas began to experience troubling symptoms, including a mass on her neck. She becomes easily fatigued and can struggle to breathe at times. Given her occupation as a farmer, these symptoms have negatively impacted her ability to work, resulting in a shortage of food at home for her family. Additionally, she faces challenges with speech, swallowing, and breathing. Her condition was diagnosed as a euthyroid goiter. Cleophas needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Cleophas receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on August 15th at AMH’s care center. During this procedure, surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. AMH is requesting $252 to fund the cost of her surgery. Cleophas shared: “My condition has over-stayed with me, and I have had the poorest quality of life. Through your support, I will be able to live a positively changed life, thus resuming farming for a living.”
