Gerren is a three-year-old quiet, thoughtful child from Tanzania with a curious gaze that closely follows everything happening around him. As the only child in his family, he spends most of his time with his parents, who are small-scale farmers growing bananas, sweet potatoes, and cassava for both food and income.
Gerren was diagnosed with bilateral genu valgum, a condition in which both knees bow inward. His parents first noticed something unusual with his legs when he began walking. Instead of straightening with age, his legs began to curve. Genu valgum can result from growth disorders, nutritional deficiencies, or environmental factors such as excessive fluoride in drinking water. If left untreated, the condition can cause pain, limit mobility, and lead to long-term joint damage. Over time, Gerren’s condition has worsened, making it increasingly difficult for him to move comfortably.
Gerren is scheduled to start treatment on May 28th at our medical partner’s care center, Kafika House. The surgery will realign Gerren’s legs, help relieve his discomfort, and support his ability to grow and move with confidence. Now, Gerren’s family needs help to fund this $777 procedure.
Gerren’s mother shares, “Please help my son, so he can grow stronger and healthier as he grows older.”
