Surat is 38-years-old and lives in Nepal. He farms and sells wood as the sole breadwinner in his family. Seven years ago, Surat was infected with tuberculosis. He was unable to complete his treatment regimen, and developed multi-drug resistant tuberculosis.
Due to his condition, Surat is living with chest pain and a persistent cough, making him feel chronically weak. If his condition progresses, it could lead to respiratory failure and possibly death.
Nyaya Health’s hospital is prepared to offer intensive MDRTB treatment. But they need our help to kickstart Surat’s nutrition so that his body is strong enough to process the treatment.

Surat did not receive surgery as planned.
Our medical partner in Nepal, Possible, tells us that Surat did not arrive for his surgery. “Surat migrated to another city without informing the care providers,” they share.
Though rare, some patients on Watsi opt out of surgery. This can happen for a variety of reasons. If we receive any additional information about Surat, we’ll provide an update. Surat is still eligible for funding on Watsi if he decides to receive surgery in the future.
