Maria is a hard-working young girl from Tanzania. She is not only dedicated to her schoolwork, but also to helping her mother run the household. Maria’s dream is to become a nurse when she grows up, but she is finding it challenging to complete her work because burn scar contractures (areas of tightened skin) on her left hand and wrist are greatly restricting their function.
Maria’s parents are small scale farmers who grow onions. Even though there is a good market to sell onions, their land is not large enough to make a big profit. With a family of five children, what they earn barely covers their everyday living expenses.
Let’s raise the $505 needed for the burn contracture release surgery so Maria can use her left hand again and continue doing well in school!
