Sok is a 65-year-old tailor from Kompong Cham province. He has one son and one grandchild. For the last thirty years, Sok has worked as a tailor in the local market, running his own busy stall. In his free time, he likes to watch boxing and the news on TV. About one year ago, Sok developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on his own. When Sok learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On June 6th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Sok is able to contribute $100 but needs help to raise $153 more to fund the procedure. Sok shared, "I hope after surgery I can see more clearly and I can do my work more easily."

Mia is a six-month-old baby who lives with her parents in eastern Bolivia. Her father is a taxi driver, and her mother was a bank cashier but is currently taking care of Mia full time. Mia has a cardiac condition called coarctation of the aorta. A major blood vessel next to the heart is too narrow, causing blood to back up and not circulate properly through the heart and body, leaving her weak and unable to gain weight. On October 1st, Mia will undergo cardiac surgery at our medical partner's care center, Hospital del Niño Dr. Ovidio Aliaga Uría. During surgery, surgeons will open her aorta to a more normal size so that blood can flow through it. Mia's family needs help to fund the costs of cardiac care and surgery. The $1,500 requested by our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, covers cardiac exams and diagnostics, surgical costs, follow-up care, and medications. Mia's mother says, "Our family was so happy when we learned about the opportunity for surgery. We will be keeping everyone who is helping our daughter in our thoughts and prayers!"

Win is an 11-year-old student from Burma who lives with his family in a refugee camp in Thailand. His father has a shop in the camp while his mother is a homemaker. Win and his three younger brothers attend school in the camp. During his free time, he enjoys playing football and sometimes watching cartoons on YouTube. One day ago, Win began to experience troubling symptoms, including abdominal pain and vomiting. He was diagnosed with appendicitis and now needs surgery to prevent his condition from worsening. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is helping Win receive treatment. He is scheduled to undergo an appendectomy, a surgery to remove the appendix when it becomes infected, on October 10th. This procedure will cost $1500, and Win and his family need your support. “I have pain in my abdomen and I cannot touch it. It is very painful. I want this pain to stop,” said Win.
