Bernardo is 65-year-old grandfather from the Philippines. He and his wife rely on the modest income from their small sari-sari store to support their household. He enjoys watching videos on his cellphone and cherishes spending time with his grandson, who brings him so much joy. Before his health issues worsened, Bernardo was working hard on becoming more physically active so that he can be present for his grandson. About eighteen months ago, Bernardo began to experience the symptoms of an inguinal hernia. These symptoms have escalated over time, causing him excruciating abdominal pain that has rendering him immobile. This pain interferes with his daily activities, his time with his grandson, and his goal to become healthier. Fortunately, on August 6th, Bernardo will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center, Our Lady of Peace Hospital. A portion of the cost of Bernardo's treatment is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation. Our medical partner is raising the remaining $1,038 to cover the cost of his surgery and care. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. He will be able to continue caring for his family and enjoy more time with his grandchild. Bernardo shared, “I am grateful for the opportunity to receive free surgery. I look forward to recovering so I can stay active, care for my grandchild, and spend more quality time with my family.”

Sopheaktra is a seven-year-old student from Cambodia. He lives with his parents, who both work in a glasses factory, and his two siblings. He is currently in second grade and enjoys reading and writing. In his free time, he likes playing with his friends and eating his favorite food, fried pork. For the past four months, Sopheaktra has been experiencing difficulty breathing, trouble swallowing, and loud snoring at night. He also experiences frequent throat infections, occurring about twice per month over the past year. This has affected his sleep and overall well-being, and has made it difficult for him to attend school regularly and participate in activities with his friends. Sopheaktra was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly worsen over time. Fortunately, on April 22nd, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, will help Sopheaktra undergo a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy — a procedure to remove the tonsils and adenoids. This procedure will cost $345, and Sopheaktra needs your support to fund the surgery. Sopheaktra's mother said, “After the surgery, I hope my son will be able to breathe easily, swallow without difficulty, and sleep peacefully at night. I also hope he will no longer have frequent throat infections and can return to his normal, healthy life.”

Dalen is 32 years old and a farmer from Cambodia. He lives in Preah Vihear province with his wife and their four-year-old son. His wife works at a garment factory and is currently the main provider for the family because he cannot work due to his injury. At home, his parents help support him and assist with tasks that he is unable to do on his own. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music and playing volleyball, but he can no longer do these activities because of his condition. On March 5th, 2025, Dalen was involved in a motorbike accident with a hand tractor, which caused a closed fracture of his right leg. He underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with plate fixation two days after the accident. Two weeks after the surgery, the surgical wound became infected, and he required a skin flap procedure to help treat and cover the infected area. About six to seven months ago, he started to experience persistent pain and abnormal movement in his leg. It is difficult for him to walk, and he now relies on crutches to keep his balance. Because of this, he cannot work and struggles with daily activities. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On March 6th, Dalen will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will help stabilize his leg, relieve his pain, and allow him to walk more comfortably so that he can return to work and support his family again. His family can contribute $37.50, but needs help raising $563 to fund his procedure and care. Dalen said, “After the surgery, I hope this treatment will heal my leg, relieve the pain, and allow me to walk normally again so I can work and take care of my wife and son.”
