Meet Sokhorn, a recently married 27 year old man, living with his wife in Cambodia. Sokhorn works at a factory that produces automobile and motorcycle plates, and when he has free time, he enjoys swimming, running, and keeping up with current events. In August 2022, when he was on his motorcycle delivering food, Sokhorn was in a collision with a car. He fractured his left tibia, and was operated on at a local hospital. An external fixation device to keep the bones in place was used, and Sokhorn was sent home to heal. Because he lacked the money to do so, Sokhorn never followed up with the doctors who treated him. He now finds that he has no range of motion in his ankle; has lost all sensation in the area where the surgery was performed, and he is unable to walk. He feels so unwell overall, that he no longer goes to work, leaving his wife as their sole support. Fortunately, a neighbor introduced Sokhorn to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, where he was diagnosed with a chronic infection of his wound, and osteomyelitis, an infection of the bone. Sokhorn needs debridement of the wound and reconstructive surgery, in order to save his leg and to heal completely. Thanks to Children's Surgical Centre, Sokhorn is scheduled for this life changing procedure on October 6th, at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. Now he needs your help to fund the $991 required to cover the costs of his surgery and care. Sokhorn said: "I hope the doctors will fix my leg so I have no more infections. I want to find work so I can support my wife and have a good life with her."

Mut is a 67-year-old farmer with one daughter, three sons, and six grandchildren. Mut lives with her husband and does not go to the rice field anymore due to her vision. Instead, she stays home and cares for her grandchildren. She enjoys listening to the monks pray and joining ceremonies at the pagoda. Five years ago, Mut developed a cataract in her left eye causing her sensitivity to light, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Mut learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours with her daughter seeking treatment. On June 14th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure. Mut shared, "I hope I can see well again so I can do housework, cook, and plant vegetables around my home."

Noun is a 68-year-old rice farmer. In her free time, Noun enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio and visiting the pagoda. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Noun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours with her neighbor seeking treatment. On June 10th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure. Noun shared, "after surgery I hope I am able to recognize people well and get around easily enough to plant vegetables around my house to sell for income. I want to visit the pagoda when my vision improves."

Rathana is a 19-year-old taxi driver from Cambodia. He lives with his parents and three younger siblings. His parents are farmers. He usually helps his parents with the farm work, but since he was injured he cannot do that right now. Normally, he enjoys playing soccer with his friends and going out to restaurants. In February, he was in motor accident that caused a fracture in his right femur. His parents took him to a traditional Khmer healer but his bone did not heal properly and he is now unable to walk without severe pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On July 8th, Rathana will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $465. This procedure will repair his fracture through the fixation of a nail, allowing him to heal effectively and walk again. Rathana said, "I hope this surgery fixes my fracture quickly so I can work again and help support my parents well."
