Twinomujuni is 45 years old, married, and the mother of eight. Two of her daughters are married, five of them are in school, and one hasn’t started school yet. She and her husband are farmers but, due to sickness, Twinomujuni is currently unable to dig. Most of the food she and her husband cultivate is for consumption in their own home because their piece of land is very small. They only sell surplus when they have it.
Twinomujuni started experiencing lower abdominal pain in 1999–almost 20 years ago. She also experiences back pain and feels a lot of heat in her body. She did visit a local health center, but didn’t get any help. Early this year she also visited a hospital where she was advised to undergo surgery, but she couldn’t afford it. Therefore she remains unable to dig or work.
Twinomujuni is suffering from endometriosis, a condition in which endometrial tissue grows outside of the womb, causing significant abdominal pain and cysts.
For $250, Twinomujuni will undergo a total abdominal hysterectomy. This operation should relieve her of her pain and improve her quality of life drastically.
“My abdominal pain is too much,” shares Twinomujuni. “I am requesting help so that I can get rid of this pain and continue working for my children.”
