Oun is a 30-year-old farmer from Cambodia. She is married with one son and one daughter. She enjoys cooking and taking care of her kids at home.
Five years ago Oun sustained damage to her ear when using a q-tip to remove an insect that got into her ear. After the accident she began experiencing ear discharge, hearing loss, and pain in her left ear.
Doctors at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), have discovered a cholesteatoma in Oun’s left ear. A cholesteatoma is an abnormal skin growth or buildup behind the eardrum due to an infection. It is difficult for Oun to communicate with other people as it impairs her hearing.
For $809 Surgeons will perform a mastoidectomy in which they will remove the growth from Oun’s ear. This will treat the infection and stop it from spreading before it causes more damage. Her ear pain and discharge will stop and over time her hearing can improve.
